Miro - free, open source internet tv and video player

Before I post about OpenSocial versus Facebook; I’m trying to get as much actual and first-hand information on the API’s as I can, and you know I’m going to post about them …it is so exciting to witness the current “format war,” especially one I believe is going to be good for everyone in the end.

However, I just came across this exciting news over on Channel 9, finally there looks to be a next-gen video player that catches up to the current practices of web life, similar to how Flock, IMHO, has really reached the next level of browser design.

The new kid on the video block is Miro, and as you would assume, it already supports an amazing amount of codec’s, from the ubiquitous Flash Video, QuickTime, and Windows media, to even some of the more interesting, but far less supported formats as well. There have been other players like VLC and Joomla out there supporting the same thing, but Miro looks to up the ante by throwing into the mix, native support for RSS and Bit Torrent feeds as well.

OpenSocial, Facebook, Android and the impending Google phone, Adobe’s AIR, and Microsoft’s SilverLight, all the sudden it’s an explosion of amazing new tech similar to the early 1990’s.
