Good Grief...more Gravel

As weird as this may sound, I still can’t get that Mike Gravel meme out of my head.

Before you think that this site is losing focus, Gravel’s PSA is actually not that far Off-Topic from Aggregate Culture. The more I thought about the apparent weirdness of Gravel just staring at the camera for close to three minutes, the more obvious it became that Gravel must have some pretty savvy marketing people working on his campaign.

I know your probably slacked-jaw with disbelief right now, and at first I too was wondering who this crackpot is, and just who is he trying to convince to vote for him in 2008? Is there such a thing as a “David Lynch” contingent out there now, competing with “Soccer Mom’s” and “NASCAR Dads.” A possible new, more powerful demographic that has been overlooked by previous campaigns, and does throwing a rock into a lake actually speaks to them about the current issues?

As much as I wish there was such a demographic (at last a candidate that speaks to me.) I now believe Gravel’s people, and possibly even Gravel himself realize that to stand out in this hyper-intensive presidential race inside an ever increasing fragmented media landscape, you need to do something so odd to raise your voice over the din of the other candidates. I’m not saying I applaud this act, but I am intrigued by campaign, and that could even lead me to being engaged at some point.

I do want to point out that I have no idea what his platform is, or even what party he belongs too, but the rock-throwing has grabbed my interest.
